Van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Run at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils duties at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on target, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his second in added time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
