A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.
The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside Bullring shopping complex, just prior to 21:00 GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.
He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the woman's death charges were upgraded to murder.
Authorities stated officers would be around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes and rucksack.
The knife attack occurred outside Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.
Police said they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity after completing her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.
She described the scene as "quite chaotic", and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"A lot of co-workers use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, you know, it's terrible."
